SAVE MOTHER EARTH!!!

The issue of climate climate change has become a global concern. In the 20th century, temperatures have gone up by about 70 degrees Celsius. God has provided us a very stunning and dazzling beauty of nature for us to take care of it. We can not hide the fact that our environment has already been degraded and we are the ones who are being badly affected by this. It's sad to say that we are the main reason why these natural phenomena like the El Niño and La Niña and other natural calamities that we are suffering now occur. If our illegal activities continue to emit large quantities of greenhouse gas, further changes in the global climate will occur. Glacier melting and arctic warming would raise he sea level and affect biodiversity in the planet. Are we not alarmed by what is happening to our surroundings? Are we not aware that what we do to Mother Nature would eventually thrown back to us? If we, humans continue to destroy God's creation, I am pretty sure that time will come that planet Earth would no longer exist because our illegal activities widely contribute to the gradual destruction of the ozone layer. The next generation would no longer have something to witnessed. As a citizen, we should stop whatever bad tings we do and give our best in taking care of Mother Earth. We must help our government in implementing the programs which help in the preservation of what we presently have. Let us do our part and help the DENR in their program Philippine Strategy on Climate Change Adaptation (PSCCA) and the "Adaptation to Climate Change and Conservation of Biodiversity in the Philippines (ACCCBio).

DON’T TRUST ANYBODY! Thank You Lord! Second Grading is about to end again. It was really a very challenging period. I have gained more experiences and I have learned a lot of lessons from those experiences of mine. “Don’t trust anybody,” whatever happens, I will always put this in my mind. It seems that all the people around me are pulling me down but even though I know they are like that, I am still trying my best to pretend that everything is just okay even if that’s not really what I feel. I noticed that some of my classmates are just using me or they just know me when they want a thing from me. At least for now, I know where I belong. I will not trust them anymore the way I trusted them before. I have already learned from my mistakes. If my classmates cannot accept me, why should I insist myself with them? It’s just okay, in fact I am so lucky because I have my family who loves me and accepts me for who I am and for what I am. I am so tired of pretending that I am happy of what they are doing. As long as I know that I am treading the right path, I will fight for my right. I will not tolerate their bad attitudes anymore because they are already abusing. Moving on, I will make use of what I have learned and I will apply it to my daily life in order to improve what I have started.
UPHOLDING ENGLISH PROFICIENCY FOR COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCY English has become the language of Commerce , government and private offices and practically all disciplines in school. With the endless innovations and scientific discoveries, one has to be proficient in the language such that he can cope with pace of rapid changes, digital technology among others. Being fluent in English makes us become globally competitive in the labor market which everybody knows has already been saturated with technological intricacies and complexities. Every month of October, our school participates in the celebration for the National English Olympics Month. Our school launches the SPEAK Campaign. This helps us to become more proficient in English. The theme for this year’s celebration is “UPHOLDING ENGLISH PROFICIENCY FOR COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCY”. In connection to this, the English Club conducts different activities like essay writing, slogan-making, smart talk, spelling bee and others using the English language. This enhance our skills on the language. This is also one way of showing what we know about this. English proficiency is very important. Let us practice speaking in English because this is the language being used in almost all parts of the world. In order for us to understand each other, we must practice speaking in English. SPEAK ENGLISH NOW!

CONSERVING ENERGY, RESULTS IN ECOOMIC SUFFICIENCY

SCIENTRICITY: Energizing Science Clubbers for Sustainable Energy, this is the theme of this year’s Science Month Celebration. The theme is very timely because nowadays, our country is suffering from power shortage due to several reasons. As a concern citizen, we must seek for solutions in order for us to solve power shortage. Our government has been implementing projects regarding this case but it seems that it’s still not enough. Sometime, I wonder how come that we are still suffering from power supply despite the many projects being implemented. Who should we blame about this crisis? Oftentimes, we waste energy. Even if we do not really need it that much, we still insist to use it just because we want to. Let’s take into consideration the electric consumption in our own houses. We cannot hide the fact that waste of energy usually starts in our houses. During daytime, we are used to switch o the lights even if we do not really need it. Instead of wasting energy, why should we not conserve it as a way of helping our economy? Each one of us has a responsibility which we must fulfil. Let us work hand in hand in order for us to have sufficient spply of energy. Energy sustains life so we must conserve energy!

MY TEACHER, MY HERO

MY TEACHER, MY SECOND MOTHER
“A teacher is like a candle that melts to give light to other people.” Teachers spend their lives in opening the door if knowledge and wisdom to their students. Without them, there would be no lawyers, doctors and other professionals. There would also be no successful and disciplined people in the world.
“Even if you will forget all the lessons which I taught, I just want to inculcate into your minds that if you have the brain, you should know how to use it in a nice way. You should be responsible enough with all the tasks given to you, don’t waste the intelligence given to you by God,” these are the words given by our adviser when we were on second year. A lady with passion, small but terrible, Mrs. Maria Theresa Redondo.
She taught me a lot of things. She made me realize that I should accept defeats and face the new battles of life. She made me realize that learning is not only inside the four walls of our classroom, I also have to go out and discover new things. She also told me that I must know my strengths and weaknesses so that I can seek some self-improvements.
Ma’am, you were not only my teacher but also my second mother and my best friend. You were the one whom I shared my problems in school. You became one of my inspirations to continue dreaming and achieve my ambitions. Because of you, my life has changed, I have become a better person. I will always remember your kindness an. “You are like a mother to me, more than anybody else can see. Thanks is less what should be, for the support and knowledge you have given me. I will never forget you ma’am because you are one of those who I consider my hero.

MY MODERN HERO

LIVING HERO OF THIS GENERATION
When we hear the word “HERO”, In am sure that the first thing that comes into our minds is Dr. Jose Rizal. Almost everyone thinks that heroes are only those who died and sacrificed their lives for our country. For me, I do not only consider Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo and others as my heroes.

I have also my own heroes: m modern heroes. The heroes I am referring to sacrificed a lot no for our country but for us their family. They always do everything in order to make us happy.
My parents are my heroes. They are my idol.  I am very thankful that I am blessed with loving and caring parents like them. They are very responsible, hardworking, thoughtful and above all, God-fearing. Whenever my brother and I have problems, they are always beside us to give some advice. They are always there to guide us to the right path. Whenever I’m feeling down, they are always there to comfort me. They are always ready to listen.
We don’t have to risk our own lives in order to be called “HERO”. We can be hero in our own simple ways. We may not know that simple things for us could be a big help for others.

I'M PROUD TO BE A FILIPINO

Annually, we celebrate the so called "Buwan ng Wika" every month of August.  This is in honor with our former President Manuel L. Quezon, the father of our National Language, Filipino.
The theme for this year's "Buwan ng Wika" Celebration is "TATAG NG WIKANG FILIPINO, LAKAS NG PAGKA-PILIPINO. We are all aware that every Filipino citizen is known for his/her language which is Filipino.  We all know that our national language is the symbol of every Filipno citizen.
May be we are wondering why we need to have a common language where in fact we have our own dialect based on where we live or what tribe we belong to.  Let us just imagine if we use our own dialect in communicating with each other, what would be our situation if this would be the case?  Will we be able to understand each other?  Will there be unity?  For sure, we will not be able to understand each other and we will not be able to express what we feel and share what we know.
On the other hand, if we talk to each other using the language, it would be better because we will certainly understand each other.  As a result, the flow of communication would become more effective.  Of course, if there is understanding, there is unity and if there is unity, there is also progress in our country.
Aside from having a good flow of communication, we are also showing our love for our country through this.  The significance of having a common language is having a strong bond with each other.  Let us be proud that we are Filipino and Filipino language is our symbol.

"BORROWED TIME"

"Time is gold," I always say this quotation but I do not know how to budget my time.  Sometimes, I spend my time in doing things which are not worth it.
If I could turn back the time, I would have spent it wisely.  I have learned that "time is so precious and whatever had happened in the past will never come back again". I thought our situation will be the same as we were on third year but there were already a lot of changes.
I have encountered a lot of trials this first grading period.  We have a lot of projects and I did not know how I finished those tasks.  I can't imagine how I faced those trials but I know that God helped me did those.  First grading period was very challenging.  Most of the time, I went to bed late and woke up early because I must finished my requirements in school.
Every mistake that I have done during this first grading period taught me a lesson and these will serve as my inspiration and basis in my everyday activities in life.
Moving on, I will do my very best to improve what I I had started. I will become more responsible in accomplishing all the assigned tasks and I will also use my time wisely.

SONA: AS USUAL

"Unlike other speeches that begin and end with words, the SONA is a living discourse with continuing value," this is a statement written by a writer of Philippine Star.  I agree with this statement because every time I hear SONA, it is usually more on projects to be implemented and at the end, it contains solutions to a certain problem.
Last July 23, 2012, the only son of the democracy icon delivered his third SONA.  During his inauguration, he stood before us and affirmed that he will root out the culture of "WANG WANG".  This project aims to put an end to the use of "wang wang" and to give a warning  to those abusive motorists who seem to be the king or queen of highways.  He stated during his third SONA that sirens only blare from the police cars, from ambulances and  from fire trucks-not from government officials.
The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is also one of the ongoing projects of the government and he mentioned that the target within two years is 3.1 million and by February of this year, the three millionth household beneficiary of this program had been registered.
As a student, I can say that there are some improvements in our country but I think we still need to strive harder.  We still need to improve what we have started.  Instead of blaming the past administration, let us just focus at the present.  Let us all cooperate for the betterment of our country. According to our president, "Let us all tread the straight and righteous path," let us start it now and for sure, tomorrow will become a better day.

"HEALTH IS WEALTH"

"PAGKAIN NG GULAY UGALIIN, ARAW-ARAW ITONG IHAIN"

July; the moth which we consider as the month of Nutrition.
Nutrition is a hot topic that generates interest easily. everyone seems to have an oponinon about what to eat and concerns about our eating styles. The public is flooded with informations and techniques related to health promotion through nutrition.
The theme of our Nutrition month celebration this year is "PAGKAIN NG GULAY UGALIIN, ARAW-ARAW ITONG IHAIN." Our health depends on our lifestyle. They say, "we are what we eat," so if we eat healthy foods everyday especially vegetables, we are healthy. we should practice eating and serving vegetables in our daily meals because aside from being affordable, we can also get a lot of nutrients from them that help our body fight diseases. vegetables make us strong and they give us energy which we use in accomplishing our daily activities in life. vegetables have many uses and we get a lot of benefits from them.
So, let us eat vegetables not only for the month of July. Let us eat vegetables not just for the sake of our Nutrition month celebration. Let us eat and serve vegetables because they are the right food for us to become healthy, for us to be free from diseases and for us to be fit.
Let us all be healthy, let us all eat vegetables because "Health is Wealth."

LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT(A WAKE-UP CALL)

Ilocos Sur National High School
Gomez St,. Brgy VII, Vigan City
                                                                                                                  June 22, 2012

Dear President Aquino,

          Special greetings for you sir!
First of all, I would like to thank you for your efforts and sacrifices in trying to make our country more progressive. I commend your efforts in fighting for our rights for our territories/properties like the very controversial Scarborough Shoal and Spratlys Island. I salute you for that sir.
It's been already two years since you were elected as president of the Philippine Republic. I can see that there are some improvements in our country because of the government programs and services being implemented. For example, the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and the K+12 Education Curriculum which has already started this school year. The objectives of these projects are nice, but still, we can not hide the fact that we are not yet ready for the K+12 education Curriculum.
It is very evident that we don't have enough classrooms, teachers, books and other school materials. we still need thousands of classrooms, teachers and millions of books. I know that you are trying your best to lessen the number of unemployed Filipinos but we need to set our priorities.
I am very sorry sir, I have no intentions to hurt your feelings but I need to express what I feel. Poverty is very evident in every corner and because of this, there are many crimes everywhere. The government spent millions of peso for the very controversial impeachment trial of CJ Corona. Instead of spending that for the impeachment trial, you should have gave it to the poor Filipino families and for sure, the case of poverty would have lessen and crimes as well.
You have lots of projects sir but i think they are not being implemented well. I know that you are trying your best but I think that is not yet enough. we should try harder for our country to be progressive. your advocacy is "Sama-sama nating tahakin ang tuwid na landas." My question is, "Are we really treading the right path?"
          Once again sir, Good day!

Respectfully yours,
April Joy M. Pichay
